Guillaume and myself ventured down to the French Quarter by ourselves. I went to the Black Heritage gallery and bought another print. I helped him search for a photography shop called the “Dark Room” I can’t believe this place had the famed Ninja turtle address of like 286 1/2 Bouborn St. We couldn’t find it. It jumped from 286 to 288.

Well, on Sept 27 Michael Bell got bail and now is out of jail. He will also be tried as a juvenile now and no longer an adult. If convicted he will be held in a Juvenile detention center until he is 18. How much you want to beat that we are going to forget about this now.

Stopped by this nice little coffee shop down in the Quarter.

It was decided by Mary, Cocky, Venom and Assata that they were getting Tattoos. Cocky want some kinda star. Assata and Mary had no idea what they wanted.

Sadly, Venom was the only one to get Ink. Leo is in the house. The ones who didn’t get one went to the Hattiesburg tattoo shop and yet again didn’t get one.

Back to the Quarter. Cocky and I refused to go into a shop with the women because some guy was dressed like a woman. A very creepy large woman.

This is probably the second time in my life seeing Bananas growing from a tree. I’m so southern.

We look for a Fortune teller shop because Assata and Venom didn’t want to get there fortune told in front of the church. haha. No luck.

Saturday night Back in Hattiesburg

Chef B-Boy-R-Dee aka DJ Venom prepared us a meal. Now get this. Venom has cooked not once but twice for us went we all are in a big group. Hopefully this trend will continue in the future. Plus he can cook. He says the special ingredient is the T-Mobile Sidekick 3.

At the Concert these Q93 people took photos of people at the show. Kerry got home and had to look himself up. “LOOK AT ME I’M THE INTERNETS.”

Pasta, Meat, Peppers. I had to cook the Turkey Sausage for him. I can cook too. Also Cocky and gang, Clean your burners. I could have burned the house down and it not being my fault. This time.

I hate hot sauce because what is the point of putting too much of something on food to kill the flavor. I don’t understand hot sauce. I heard that we as black people are genetically alter to love this stuff. Hot sauce + Popcorn = pretty good. But you don’t see me sneaking into the theatres with me. I do know people who do. (sad)

Venom and I go to Hudson Salvage Center because we like cheap crap. I found the most offensive Self portrait of the Ugly Poet every. HAHAHA

This is just pure Racism. They hold a like a whole shelf full of these. I think I cried a little.

Venom had to DJ a wedding in Hattiesburg. We had to scout out the location because neither of us knew were it was.

The house was on some BALLIN stuff.

They danced to the soldier boy or whatever. This one bridesmaid was like queen of the club. She was pretty nice to look at but had too much energy.

We got back to the apartment and order wings. That’s right Wings. This is She’la holding Guillaume’s ketchup. That’s right WE GOT IT!

We went to the mall and it was pretty boring after that.

When we made it back to my car it wouldn’t start. I thought my starter was going out and after the crap that happened before the trip I remembered “shit rolls down hill” So I was not happy. Turns out after a jump from Guillaume after he gets off from work that it was my battery.  Venom and I didn’t leave Hattiesburg until 9 pm.  It was a good trip man.  Good friends and Reggie (haha)

On a sad note, this was the last trip of the summer because Sunday was the official start of Autumn or Fall which ever you want to call them.  Skipp coon is getting married this weekend so after the photos for that I will also do a double shot of my brother and his new wife because I still haven’t post anything about that.

I’m in the middle of the VH1 Hip Hop Honors. I forgot to tell you that yesterday. The Roots pretty much did a tribute concerts to all the great hip hop pioneers. Also Big daddy Kane and Biz Markie was there. MC Lyte was on the bill but I guess she got bumped off or was scheduled for another show.

Yep. Evil was SLAMMED from Wednesday until Sunday, I am here to bring you the epic tale of 4 men (and two women for a brief time) and our quest. I got my car from the dealership at like 4:30PM and drove up right after that. Shout out to Brutus McBash.

The adventure begins below.

Venom and I arrive at Cocky, Merc B!, and Guillaume’s apartment then run over to the Sake Cafe for food. Cocky’s co workers were having some kind of get together.

Cocky didn’t introduce us to any of his co workers because he doesn’t have home training. YEAH I SAID IT, MCFLY! The Teriyaki chicken was good. Now, I don’t like sushi, I just can’t wrap my head around it. It’s gross dude.

That’s Reggie to the left. I only knew him because he was roommates of Guilluame and them. All these other people. I don’t know them.

Later that night around 10:30 ish we recorded a SLAM EVIL! podcast. All four of us in the same area made for a good show. We got Ugly poet and 7even:Thirty on the line from Jackson. Be sure to check it out.

We are about the bounce down to New Orleans at around 2:00PM. Waited for Cocky Mcfly to get off work and him and Guillaume to get measured for their Tuxedos for Walt’s wedding next month. GAME OVER WALT!

We stayed at an Laquinta Inn on Camp St. about 4 blocks from the House of Blues. I recommend this place because of the awesome view and stuff. Valet parking and all. Also It was pretty cheap. Ask for the 5th floor.

Helpful tip to people going to the House of Blues concerts. If you eat there you get a receipt and can get into the concert hall 30 minutes before everyone else.

Waiting. Angelica forgot her ID, NO BOOZE FOR YOU. The House of Blues enforces a hard no camera policy. HAHAHA yeah right. We had cameras and said we can keep our cameras but can’t take pictures. Now, Guillaume and the rest went to the A Tribe called Quest concert and they got there cameras taken at the door. So I took liberty once i saw a few flashes going. Sadly I didn’t get any photos of DJ Soul Sister who was awesome.

We join our young adventurers and Ken (i’m old) on Canal street.

Yes, Canal Street is a vein street in the city.

This is were our sneaker pimps want to go.

As you readers know i don’t care much for sneaker culture but hey I’ll entertain them with it.

That’s right shoes in plastic. I know I was puzzled by this also, but being how much they pay for these customs sneakers they have to sell all of them.

We split up from Kerry and Mary as they walk Canal. We ventured down Royal St. toward Dunmaine to a skate shop. Bill gave us some really crappy directions and I didn’t know where Dunmaine was in the french quarter. But once I got there it’s down by the farmers market after Cafe De Monde. Never really made it that far down.

Bill was sad because they didn’t have any SB dunks there. Should have called first, but the adventure was more of the fun. Betcha i’ll know where it is next time.

We ended up going to the Black heritage gallery were they had a 50% sale on some prints. I bought 2 Mucha prints for 22 bucks. (they are at the bottom) Got back to Sport Plus and Bill tried to find something.

Next stop, P.F. Chang’s China Bistro. I thought Bistro’s were French but in New Orleans I guess every restaurant is a Bistro. CHEESECAKE BISTRO YOU ARE NEXT!

Venom put his Mac Book away so he could read my copies of Invincible for the thousand time.

DAY THREE: Canal and back

The sleeping arrangements were better because of less people. I had to share a bed with Angelica the first night and it was horrible. (we didn’t touch ya’ll stop and we were under two different covers. She’s like a little sister.) I couldn’t go to sleep that first night because I sleep kinda rough and i was scared that i would roll over on her or knock her into the wall. Venom and Bill were in the bunks and Kerry and Mary shared the Main Bed.  I don’t see how a family of more than average size could enjoy this for months.  This night was way better.  The photo doesn’t look that way but i’m rested really.

Why do you always leave with more crap than you come with? Bill, your stuff wouldn’t have fit dude.

There was these old buildings down the way. I have decided on our way out we would stop by them and take photos. I love these trees. You can only see them in Louisiana I have noticed or near Swamp land.

Okay. I couldn’t find a free park down in the French quarter’s Cafe Du Monde plus they were super busy. I illegally parked so we can run to the riverwalk mall so we can have Beignets for breakfast. We ran thru the mall to the place and put 5 on it.

OOOOOHHH powder sugar. I don’t normally eat breakfast but man. I would eat these twice a week for breakfast if I could. (not part of your balanced breakfast.)

She ate one of my Beignets.

Angelica noted that under I-510 that there were paintings on the columns. We noticed them on the way back to the FEMA trailer and I promised that I would bring her back tomorrow for them.

After returning the key to My uncle we had to go back thru hattiesburg. Bill had mistakenly taken my camera charger. Mary mistakenly took our left over from P.F. Chang’s. The trip that way took 30 more minutes than it would if we head back I-10 to I-55 to Jackson. No biggie. Look how happy she is to get the food back. Which is still in my Fridge because she forgot it in there when she left. HAHA. (it’s going in the trash today.)

Overall… I couldn’t have travel with a greater group of people. All the laughs, mishaps and other stuff made for a better trip. Thanks for all coming along for the ride gang. We should do this again. Hopefully BIGGER and GRANDER. Now, next time if Jerriod can come. But SEE JERROID IS HAPPY AGAIN. I bought him an LB shirt and Phonte signed it. We began with his Tears and ended with his Joy.

Friday: DAY TWO START!

Venom and I started our day by Pissing Excellence. Metal Gear Solidius and Bastard Symbiote.  Also, we piss excellence every morning.  The toliet was blessed twice over.

It was sad that Jerriod couldn’t come with us. He had a Family reunion that he had to go to. This is him crying about it because he didn’t want us to leave. He said he was cutting the grass but his tears were delicious, like the sweetest Kool-aid.

Now we have officially started the trip.

Venom excited because he has never been to a “REAL” hip hop show. He also he hasn’t really been to New Orleans in like 7 years also. Like REALLY been… with someone that SLAMS EVIL!

We also stayed in a FEMA trailer over off of Elysian Fields. Where most of the flooding happened. My uncle was working on a friends house so this was were he would stay if he was too tired to go home. 6 people in a FEMA trailer is crazy but it was still fun.

The two houses next to us were Abandoned. Most of them were. I found this house next to us a little odd being my name is Ken. (they knew I was coming) The house across the street was were a little kid like 14 years old or so cut threw the roof of the house because he grandmother drowned below him.  He also had to signal the helicopters to get him. 12 feet of water. That’s like Venom standing on my shoulders.  I couldn’t believe it.

The lead guitar player sweats like crazy the whole show. He was leaking awesome all over the place. The band had 2 trumpets, Trumbone, Drum Kit player, Bass, Pianist, and a crazy Percussion guy. The percussion guy changed instrumentals like every minute seamlessly. NOT MISSING A BEAT. Very awesome.

Now, she was cool. She had an pretty good voice but it was drowned out by most of the instruments.  Better than most singers live.

Any time you have a live band backing you up is like a hundred times better. Rapper Big Pooh lays it down in the black. Phonte dancing along in the Green. Darren Brockington in the black singing.

Skipp would have been pissed at Phonte because some guy yell out for them to do the “yo-yo” track. Phonte replied, “Look man.. we aren’t some jukebox up here. We got a set to play thru. Let use entertain you.”  Skipp still is mad at Black Thought.

Aunt Jemima was there and Guillaume was in the back. We packed up and venture out to world in search of food and good times.

We heade to the Riverwalk because I always love being by the water when I go places. It’s something very calming about it. Plus it’s the Mississippi River meaning that I know it’s close to my home of Natchez.

Cocky McFly thought i would be fun to take a photo of these nuts… I mean sign.

Most of the food places in the Riverwalk are now closed and abandoned. I was dishearten to learn of Popeyes and the Po boy shop being in those many shut downs.

This was a nice photo I got when the guy wasn’t playing attention. I want a house with tall windows like that. Knowing me I would have the blinds down all the time. Because I like to walk around in the nude.

One thing, I always love about New Orleans was that the musicians would follow you around like your own personal soundtrack. Every time we stopped these guys stopped playing. Okay maybe that was only in my head.

The Preservation Hall during the day. Yeah I probably wouldn’t have entered this place if I would have saw how bad it looked during the day. Lesson learned, don’t judge a book by it’s cover but by it’s creme center. Wait…

Artwork is another big for me in New Orleans. So many great artists, I have failed to make it down to the artist district off Magazine St. I need to hunt some galleries when I go back down. Sadly, the Black Heritage Gallery was closed when I went by. It’s still open but they were gone to lunch. I really want to buy a new Print. The three Justin Bua prints I own I got from there.

I need to get my natural medium back on.

Beignets taste like Funnel Cakes, but better to me. They are covered in powder sugar. These were some of the best I have had. I wish I had some right now. (DRROOOOLLLLL) (Note to self: Learn to make them.)

Like I said early they follow us around and play a soundtrack to our lives.

A touch of home in New Orleans. After this we traveled back Hattiesburg after that. I laid down around 9:40 and didn’t get up until the next day. Sofa King tried.

My best Friend, Dorrell, stopped by the apartment. His wife birthday was this weekend so we didn’t get a chance to really hang until Sunday. HA YOUR MARRIED!

Later that Saturday night, Merk B!, Guillaume , Cocky and myself ate at the local China buffet. My love for Wontons grow more and more each day. I think I should order out tonight after work.

BALLLLLIINNNN. We read our lousy fortunes and left. The meal was okay but not a good as I hoped for.

Sunday. I wish we had a Sweet peppers up here. It’s like a cheaper McAlisters plus not a crappy as Subway or Quzinos.

Chilled with Dorrell while enjoying my Roast Beef sandwich. Beef it’s whats for dinner.

Dorrell’s sister, Pam, called us saying she had a new surprise and wanted Dorrell to see it. She bought her a new Ford Explorer. She still had the Nissan Altima she when Dorrell and I were in high school. (Memories, like the pages in my mind) Glad, she didn’t get rid of it but Glad she also Upgraded.

Went back to Dorrell and Danielle’s house for a little Nintendo Wii. I bought Sonic and the Secret rings and this is him trying it out.

Yeah it’s that fast.

Daneille made it back to the house after a nice long Jog. It was getting late and I had to get back to Jackson. I enjoyed my trip. ….there’s Probably this. That’s right ?uestlove on the wheels of steel at the Preservation hall. It’s a famous place were they keep New Orleans Jazz alive after because of Modern Jazz taking over.

After Hurricane Katrina came thru it took a lot of New Orleans Musicians away from their homes and now they are spread around the nation. New Orleans in the birth place of Jazz as Mississippi is to Blues. Please visit RENEW ORLEANS and buy a T. We paid 15 dollars to get in 8 for to get in and the rest for RENEW ORLEANS.

?uest spun James Brown, Public Enemy, A Tribe Called Quest, and much more. It was kinda mello. People would dance off and on. I even danced for a minute. I know it happen.

I really don’t know what to say. Oh New Orleans.

?uest had his Mac Book Pro and Back up hard drive for his tune. Most likey he had Serrato running because I never saw him switch his records.

Hub is the bass player for The Roots.

This is the walk way that leads to the courtyard in the back. I didn’t get any good photos of the courtyard but it’s was pretty dark.

Overall, the place reminded me of Seven* studioz in place were you can just chill out. No one was smoking, and relaxing. I mean the Roots had all type of fans but they didn’t get any Man Fan love. I just can’t be all overly happy about meeting people who music, art or whatever I love. Man Fan thing is kinda creepy, when it happens to me. I mean REALLY creepy. It was a nice time out in New Orleans. I got one more day to share with you guys.

I left for Hattiesburg, Wednesday night after working. I made around 6:40pm. I gave Cocky Mcfly 2 dollars to iron my pants because you know I’m rich like that. We just hung out and laughed the most of the night with Him, Guillaume and Merk B!.

Sadly, Merk B! was not going to join us on the adventure. He was missed so i drew him a picture and placed it on the fridge. I spelled “were” wrong on purpose to had the 7 year old feel to it.

We came thru Sidell on the east bank. Man, I remember a ton of place over there and now it’s just a strip of destruction. The place were I saw Nutty Professor as a kid had a save-a-lot sign thru it. About two miles of empty apartments and office buildings. It was sad that this town will never be the same sense the great exodus.

I visited my Aunt Barbara aka Tee Bob, who has just sent her FEMA trailer back just 3 days ago and has started living back in her house. Katrina happened in 2005 people, hen she was in Natchez for over 5 months. So she finally has the house livable again. It shows that time will heal this city.

We made our way out to Kenner, LA to Williams Blvd. because I was sure the farther from downtown the better the price on a hotel. LaQuinta Inn was pretty nice this time. The one in Mobile kinda sucked compared to this one.

We unpacked around 1pm and just sat around while I checked the Hyper Global Mega Net (internets, Brian!) to see my emails from clients and others.

We went to the Esplanade mall which was right off Williams Blvd. I need to find a shirt to wear because I didn’t over pack. Like a re re. I didn’t get one but we saw some of the beautiful women that New Orleans have to offer.

We haven’t eaten all day so we decide to grab some crap and save it for a good meal later. (too bad we didn’t get that good meal until Saturday.)

Just to let ya know, I was fresh to def. But not as fresh as Cocky Mcfly looked around J. Crew. This is a store I will never shop in. The stuff in there was just stupid expensive and it look like Ultra Preppy.

What you all been waiting for. Sorry for the image quality, We thought they would turn us around with our real cameras, but we learned. They put it on the ticket but they don’t care. These were taken on my cellphone. Next time better photos, I promise.

Pre Concert Krunk.

Lupe Fiasco gave us a show for his 50 minute set. Dude, brought it. Seriously, He gave the crowd the energy. He did his Feel Good song with the Gorillaz beat as everyone sung the chorus. He had a ton of crowd inaction on songs like “Kick Push” and “I Gotcha” Kick push was great because he thru the #1 instrumental used everywhere by every real MCee ever. “Shook ones” by Mobb Deep. Guiallme says only a few people knew what it was because some of the crowd was hip hop heads but new hip hop heads. He did a poem about Katrina and then went into “Hurt Me Soul.”

The Roots came down from The top of the House of Blues and march onto the stage with ?uest playing drums and the Brass section leading him in. Great way to start the show. They just walked down the steps across the bar and to the stage.

They did an awesome melody of songs like “Snap yo Fingers” by lil jon and the eastside boyz and “Lean with it” by whatever that random group name. For real, I don’t know who they are with there being so many carbon copies. Now, Guiallme hates these songs but it’s rumored (FACT!) that he was snap his finger and possible doing a Step all by himself. (FACT!) Also on a funny side note Kamal (keyboardist) had his Gold Gangsta grill in and it was too funny.

They didn’t really play many of their songs until later. The version of “you got me” was played in Acoustic Guitar and also the both Kirk and Hub killed it. Hub broke his electric bass with his solo but it was just something weird with the wiring. Kirk murdered cover him, ?uest and Tuba Gooding of Bob Dylan’s War song. I forget the name. But Kirk is a rock star.

The Roots had a four man Brass section. Trumpet, Sax, Trombone and Tuba. The only one of the guys name I remember is Tuba Gooding Jr. Black Thought took a minute to say “Yo, New Orleans I know you guys started This thing call Jazz so we got something special only for all. The ?uestlove* Quartret.” ?uest came to the front corner to play on a drum set that I didn’t notice before.

Oh man they finish up with a James Brown like tribute. Where Thought was the ring leader to a ton of jokes at the crowd.

random: No really I am
BT: Girl you just a little.. BABY BABY BABY
Then the band with pick up the groove with a number of Jame Brown like hits for him.
They also played “Roxanne” by the Police it’s one of my friends ringtones and one of my most played albums of late. (the Police greatest hits)

Now this isn’t the end of my post this is just part one. Part two is coming Wednesday followed by Part Three on Friday. Part two will make most of you jealous or sad because you didn’t go. If you get to see them live please go. It was worth all the money I spend that whole week to get there.

I was invited down to see My Morning Jacket in New Orleans with Brian and Hollie. To Brian, My Morning Jacket is the greatest band in the world. Now I still don’t know what they are saying in the lyrics because the guy is usually yelling randomly, but i have to say they rocked it. The guys in the band gave their all for the small venue with up to 200 people. Now Brian and Hollie don’t get to go out much because they have two young kids, Emma my souldaughter and Jake Hammer, so I told them to have a good time and I’ll drive back because I don’t drink. It was a pretty good show, I enjoyed myself but not as much and Brian did. Be lucky I know my way around New Orleans you two. Best song was “Wordless Chorus” from the Z album. Bubbles fell on the crowd while the lights went nuts during the song. Also I hate smelling like smoke and worst of all my dread smell like one big @$$ cig. Oh well.

As we wait for Hull’s friends. Brian was nervous because he thought that it didn’t start until 9 but the tickets said 7pm. OOOOOH SNAP RACE TO NEW ORLEANS.

We made it around 8pm plus MMJ didn’t go on until 9:30pm.

Red Fang or something was the opening act. They were okay but not My Morning Jacket.

The place was packed full of people.

“You guys got nails and wood?” asked MMJ “No. Why” said the crew. “Because we need someone to rebuild the stage after WE RIP IT UP!” exclaimed MMJ. They didn’t really say that but I would like to say that one time in my life.

We made it back like at 3:30am, I didn’t go to sleep til 4am. It was fun next time, I go to concerts at the HoB it will be the Roots hopefully.

This sunday I will be trying to get a Nintendo Wii. Wish me luck. I must goto Hyrule for my Thanksgiving Holiday. Sorry again for no art. I haven’t really been working on anything big. Got some freelance to get out of the way.
